about us

In the repertoire for quintet with double bass, two great works stand out: Antonin Dvorák’s String Quintet, op. 77, and the ‘Trout’ Quintet by Franz Schubert.  Staying within the genre and looking for further works for these configurations, one is pleased to discover a number of wonderful pieces that are unfortunately completely unknown today and hardly ever played.

In 2000, the fabergé - quintett came together to play several chamber music concerts after a North German Radio (NDR) Elbphilharmonie Orchestra tour in Japan with Günter Wand. They have been devoted to this repertoire ever since, working with different pianists and second violinists as required. They have performed repeatedly at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Westküsten Kammermusiktagen, and of course in the NDR’s own chamber music series. 2014 they performed in Tongyeong, South Korea.

In June 2013, they released the premiere recording of three string quintets by Adolphe Blanc on the label C2/Es-dur Hamburg, which attracted a lot of attention, was immediately named CD of the Week on NDR Culture, and is often broadcast on various radio stations. In 2014 the CD received the ECHO Klassik Award in the category Chamber Music Recording of the Year (19th century music.) / Strings.

December 2014, the second CD with piano quintets of Ralph Vaughan Williams and Hermann Goetz had been released, which has been reviewed at broadcasting stations  like NDR, WDR, SWR, rbb and the BR.
